Kinesthetic Montage Hong Kong
Elmaleh Gallery, School of Architecture, 2018
Esther Lorenz

The exhibition showcased the research by Esther Lorenz on pedestrian systems in four different neighborhoods in Hong Kong, as well as a filmic catalogue of specific spatial typologies found in Hong Kong movies, alongside student work outcomes from her fall 2017 research studio “Kinesthetic Montage Hong Kong: Film Archive”. Her exhibition design was conceived as an all-immersive environment with drawings and films treated equally as frames, static or dynamic, and distinctly set-off against the blackened background. A central island provided an opportunity for lounging as well as headphones for listening to the soundtracks of each of the four dynamic screens.
