Against Ontology

Ontology is the study of being (ontos), yet, as a Greek intellectual framework, it imbues Western philosophy with an all-encompassing drive, and with it, forms of architectural and urban theories. This highly collaborative investigation, “up-stream”, engages with the renowned thinker François Jullien and his ideas on how thought and life can become if suspended from ontology, and how China becomes a total social fact of the non-ontological, moving away from normative sinology. Among the works, the Theory Culture & Society Special Issue co-edited by Shiqiao Li and Scott Lash is an ambitious collection of critical writings engaged in this deep review of Western philosophy.
