Inside-out, Outside-in
Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Architecture Urbanism, Hong Kong, 2007

Joshua Bolchover and Esther Lorenz, with video contributions by students from the Royal College of Art, London, under the guidance of Roberto Botazzi

Inside-Out / Outside-In is an intervention that playfully explores the relationship of the interior spatial qualities of the Central Police Station, Hong Kong, with the dynamic urban intensity of its exterior, at the moment of the first-time opening up of the historical compound to the public. The installation uses visual devices, previously used for observation and control, to create a relationship between the prison and its location. The previously strict spatial boundaries are broken allowing the outside-in and the inside-out.
